Ian Chia has been involved in multimedia and the computer gaming industry since 1986, writing assembly language game applications under the Beam Software title (now a property of Atari/Infogrames Entertainment.) Since then, his projects have included composing and producing one of the music industry's first enhanced CDs - released by Sony Music Entertainment, and large scale online projects featured on the front pages of Yahoo.com, Shockwave.com, MTV.com and Beatnik.com and Sony Europe. His Britney Spears and NSYNC video Mixmakers (as well as a more extensive audio range of music mixers) on Shockwave.com featured as the top pieces of interactive audio content on that site for over 20 months. As the Beatnik Xtra Architect at Beatnik.com, he was responsible for a software product that provides high-end interactive audio capabilities to clients including Disney Interactive, Macromedia, Miller Beer, Columbia Pictures, Konami, Shockwave.com and Akai amongst others. For MTV.com's Video Music Awards, he directed the Moby Webeo, and directed the audio component of the Bjork Webeo. Both pieces attracted major press locally (New York Times) and internationally. His work appears in the DJ FU Wax Attack game sponsored by Ford Motors, Sony Europe's DJ VAIO portal application and SprintPCS's 3G network. Ian is a previous member of Macromedia's Flash advisory board. His book "Flash: the Future" was widely regarded as the most comprehensive and advanced reference on Flash development for devices in its time. He was also a contributing author to the Flash MX ActionScript Bible. More recently, his works included: * Development of Crumpler Europe's e-commerce websites (Germany, Switzerland, England). Architecture of Flash frontend, programming and animation. System is designed for internationalized deployment throughout multiple European regions, using different languages and currencies. * Flash-based instant messenger client developed for redfishbluefish.com.au, based on the Jabber XMPP protocol (as used in GoogleTalk and Apple iChat.) The IM client is deployed on a variety of government and corporate sites. Also customized two different chat servers, one written in Perl and the current one in Java. * HP branded music remixer for CNET's MP3.com. Developed a Flash SWF compiler in pure PHP and integration with MP3.com's member registration system. * Pocket PC Flash development for Lochard Australia, involving a ruggedized data collection client for their Noise and Flight Track Monitoring Systems for airports. Architecture and optimization of Flash based application. * Microsoft C# .NET programming/consulting to integrate Flash 7 based product marketing tool into a desktop application, for a Netherlands based commercial fan manufacture. * Promotional CD-ROM for HP/Walmart, using Director MX 2004. * A streaming video subscription service for the Stanford Stanford Graduate School of Business Center for Leadership Development and Research. * Animated training material for E*TRADE's premium financial trading software. Most recently, he architected and developed the backend system for Hertz Research's highly successful Talkingpolls.com rich internet application. A large scale video polling system, with an extensive Flash based content management system to design surveys, projects and multiple polling sessions per client projects. Responsible for ColdFusion development, co-architecture of front/backend communication using Flash Remoting, and MySQL database design. The system is currently used by clients including the American Broadcasting Corporation's ABC7 in San Francisco, the KITV4 (ABC affliate in Hawaii), State Bar of California, Berkeley, the Outrigger chain of hotels and various others.
